exotic  behind the scenes with makeup artist Marinella Infante

Take the plunge
Dive into Exotic eyes

We all want to know how makeup artists create the fabulous faces we see in ads. Our own hsn.com producer Michelle P. went behind the scenes to get you the inside scoop from makeup artist Marinella Infante as she finds our model's wild side.

Step 1: Build a foundation
Marinella primes our model’s skin to correct any areas with redness, freckles, age spots or blemishes. For this shoot she uses Susan Lucci’s Youthful Essences Bright Fix Radiant, a precise corrector pen. She then lightly brushes on a powder foundation using a large brush.

TIP: To cover redness, freckles or blemishes, brush on a small amount of concealer.

Step 2: Eyes are the prize
To create Exotic eyes that light up a room, Marinella starts with a gold base – Mojave from Cargo’s Eyeshadow cards. Next, to contrast the gold, she chooses shimmering teal blue from Napoleon Perdis Red Carpet to Reality Look #3. Starting in the outer corner of the eye, she covers half of the lid, and then follows inward along the crease. She softens the edges with a brush, making sure the gold is still gold, but the lines between the two colors are soft.

TIP: For a less dramatic look, use the dark color on only a third of the lid, and add a thick line of liner along the lashes.

Step 3: Eye-catching finish
Marinella applies midnight blue cream liner from the Napoleon Perdis Red Carpet to Realty kit along the lash line, as close to the lashes as possible. This makes the lashes look longer and fuller. For the Exotic cat-like effect, she extends the line out beyond the edge of the eye. The same liner applied below the eye (along with a little teal eyeshadow) softens the lookt. To finish the eyes, Marinella applies mascara on both sides of the lashes for a fatter, thicker look. Going back with a lash comb to remove clumps or excess mascara completes the process.

TIP: Neutral lips or gloss work best to complement these dramatic eyes...And don't forget the hair!

Step 4: Blushing, but not shy
Apply blush in small circles along the cheek bone. For a warmer look, use a bronzing powder along the brow line, nose and cheek bones.

Step 5: Luscious lips
Look for a neutral lip color or gloss to complement the Exotic look. (Going too red will distract from the eyes and lessen the effect.) For our model’s great looking lips, Marinella chooses LipFusion Micro-Injected Collagen Lip Plump in a sheer, shine-intensive bare shade.
